BOOKS
Make Training Work
A short, easy to read book designed for supervisors and managers. The book focuses on transferring new learning from a training session to the job. It tells the story of a young manager who has attended many training programs but has never used the new knowledge and skills. After discussion with his boss he decides that he'll make training work. The book goes on to describe a step-by-step approach to personal transition. This has become a popular choice as pre-reading for leadership development workshops. (Price CDN$25)

Make Change Work
This book focuses on a simple "nuts and bolts" approach to organizational change. It tells the story of a Plant Manager charged with the responsibility of bringing fundamental change to his plant. It follows his progress as he discovers that many of the "easy" answers to organizational change are far more complex than they seem. He deals with change issues very much like those dealt with by today's managers who struggle with change. By the conclusion of the book the reader has a checklist of "things to do" to make change work. This book has become a popular choice as pre-reading for change management workshops. (Price; CDN$25)
EXERCISES
Motivating Employees
This exercise is an ideal tool for facilitating the discussion of employeee motivation. Workshop participants are presented with a list of 15 commonly used motivators and asked to rank them in order of effectiveness. They then join teams to discuss their rankings and develop a team consensus ranking. Finally, they are presented with an "expert" ranking with which to compare. Discussion then focuses on ranking differences.
This exercise has become a popular tool in performance management and leadership workshops. (Price; CDN$18)

Polaris 360 Survey
This multi-rater survey is produced by our associates at OSI in San Diego and available in Canada through Touchstone. The generic version of the survey is based on the complete Polaris Competency Dictionary, but can be easily tailored to meet client needs. The survey is designed to act as a development tool and as such will include a telephone feedback session with a consultant/coach familiar with the survey and with the management development process.
(Prices; Feedback Reports per Manager CDN $350
Telephone Coaching CDN $350)

Teamex
In order to improve team performance you first must analyze its current strengths and development needs. As in the 360 process, team members complete a short questionnaire anonymously. They are e-mailed to the data centre and a report produced which presents a clear picture of current team performance. Team building can then focus on those areas needing the greatest improvement. (Price CDN $400 per team)

Power Source Indicator
This instrument was developed jointly by OSI and Touchstone. The self report provides scores on eight unique sources of power. Individual power preferences are revealed, and the differences between personal (leadership) and positional (management) power explored. This is a valuable tool in workshops, for coaching, and career planning. (Price CDN $17.00 each)
